Started as a grinder, became much more radio friendly once in the studio. This song is written from the perspective of a homeless person, drug addict, who has given up on the world. Perhaps paralleling a mental illness. Falling through the cracks the individual tries everything to stay grounded.

    Story Behind the Song
The music came way before the words. I was playing this in rehearsals for a year and then on stage for a year before even thinking of writing down a word. The sentiment seemed to flow out each night, re-writing itself in my head. This continued over and over until I found I was using the same basic story structures each night... so I wrote it down. Man were they messed up - and strangely I've never done drugs, I'm not even sure what kind of pill a blue pill would be! About 6 months before this recording it was decided to dump a verse, to make the song shorter and more approachable. Original live recordings went as long as 7 minutes!

    Lyrics
    Grounded

I don't dream any longer. What do you say about that?
They promise salvation. All it takes is a coin in the hat.
Can you tell me. how to find a way out
I suffer delusions, the kind that make me scream and shout

    I don't dream any longer. I don't care anymore!
I don't see any further. No direction home.

And now I spend my time, sleeping under bridges.
The leaves they cushion my head. The clay it sticks to my cheek
You'll never know my pain. I keep it locked deep inside.
you'll never see my pain. Tears are washed away by rain rain.

    I don't dream any longer. I don't care anymore!
I don't see any further. No direction home.

And now I've found a way out. Through the comfort of pills.
I take the happy blue ones. And reality rushes out.
Feel the needle break through skin. Anticipate the rush.
With the slightest of pressure. The plunger drives it away.

    I don't dream any longer. I don't care anymore!
I don't see any further. No direction home.
