To deny our own Impulse, is to deny the very thing that makes us Human... |

Story Behind the Song
This song is very simple at heart. It started out with a full, but abrubpt patch on my Roland JX-8P which was run through a delay unit.
The riff was exceptionally simple, but it was the transient nature of the patch that made it interesting to listen to.
After some time listening/playing with the loop, I accidentally repeated a small section of it, and took it from a straight 4/4 beat in to a more "breaky" rhythm. I kept the 4/4 version and made it the verse, and took the "breaky" version and made it the chorus.
I was playing around with two different chord riffs, played by two different instruments. I had originally conceptualised either one or the other being used within the song, and perhaps even using one for the verse, and one for the chorus. In a moment of mixing magic, I left the two running together. I decided that the two worked well together, and so I turned them both in to the main verse chords.
The bass line was something that just fell in to place. It was a bit of a bitch to do. The sound is a very simple one made by the PPG Wave 2.3. This is an exceptional waste of the Wave, but what the hey! It works. Getting the bass line to "feel" right was driving me nuts. I'm not sure if it was Cubase, or the Wave 2.3, or even MIDI in general, but notes just seemed to linger on that little bit too long, or be the fraction too short, or lagging here, or being too early there. Maybe it's just me... I tried quantising it, but that only seemed to make things worse. I ended up going in to the list editor, and editing the note position/length of every not in the bass-riff by hand. Very frustrating indeed!
The vocal sample. What can I say...? Seemed to fit. Pretty cool. Not as obscure as some of the ones I've used, but then again you'd have to understand, to know...
I hope you like it!
Mi.
