Sad start, happy ending. |

Story Behind the Song
This was written shortly after 9/11 and although it doesn't really have a lot to do with the events of that day, I think it set the mood for the beginning of the song. The song ends on a much happier note and I think subconsiously I was searching for some hope in the grander scheme of things.
Lyrics
Wasting away ever since I was a young man
Still hate the thought of being called a wise man
Taking for granted every thing that I have
Cup is running over, fill it up and get a bigger glass
What is it that you can do for me
Is this the only thing that I see
This loneliness is easy to control
With the poisons that I’m pouring, pouring do to swallow my soul
(Chorus)
‘Cause I am the biggest coward of the century
And I am the one who’s lost his faith in everything
But I am only one of a million
And you can find me by the ocean singing songs of hopelessness and pain
Come find me by the ocean, I’ll sing you songs of hopelessness and pain
Fighting fire with fire, is the only thing I ever learned
To be a bigger man, I’ll slowly cut you down to size
Taking time for granted, I bet I’ll live to be one hundred
Why is it that you can only see
The loneliness that’s just a part of me
But Slowly I am starting to control
The demons that are waiting pulling at the bottom of my soul
(Repeat Chorus)
Slowly strip away the skins of violence past
Searching for a passage cause I don’t know how long I’ll last
Suddenly remember, a word comes from above
The only thing that matters is love
And I stare out past the ocean into the eyes of hope that fill me up with love
Now I am the greatest giver of the century
And I am the one who fell in love with everything
But I am only one of a million
And you can find me by the ocean, singing songs of laughter in the rain
Come find me by the ocean, I’ll sing you songs of laughter in the rain
And I stare out past the ocean into the eyes of hope that fill me up with love
