Story Behind the Song
As I turned the corner on my way home from work, I saw the sunbeams shooting down through the clouds. I started singing - Have you ever seen the sun shine through the clouds. That scene always makes me feel uplifted. I started thinking about how seeing someone you love makes you feel the same way. I started making mental notes of things that I see, hear or come in contact with that elicits some of the same feelings I have when I see, hear or get to be with someone I love. Just think about how you would feel in each situation such as the excitement of hearing the voice of a long lost friend or the comfort and warmth of a campfire. Now you know how I feel.
Lyrics
KNOW HOW I FEEL
By Linda McKeeth © 3/8/02
You ask me how I know that I love you.
You ask me how I know that it's real.
Listen to me, I will tell you.
I know it by how I feel.
How I feel when I see you.
How I feel when I hear you.
How I feel just to be near you.
I'll tell you how I feel.
Have you ever seen the sun shine through the clouds?
Have you ever seen a complete double rainbow?
Have you ever seen the stars from a mountaintop?
Then you know how I feel when I see you.
Have you ever heard the laughter of a child?
Have you ever heard the song of the nightingale?
Have you ever heard the voice of a long, lost friend?
Then you know how I feel when I hear you.
Have you ever stood on the seashore?
Have you ever warmed your hands by the campfire?
Have you ever toured the Statue of Liberty?
Then you know how I feel when I'm near you.
You asked me how I know that I love you.
You asked me how I know that it's real.
You listened, and I told you.
I know it by how I feel.
How I feel when I see you.
How I feel when I hear you.
How I feel just to be near you.
Now you know how I feel.
Notes:
Sing all but the last verse.
Then sing the first verse again and at the same time, sing one line (i.e. 1 seen, 1 heard, 1 feel) from each of the next three verses, ending with
"Then you know how I feel about you."
You'll need to do the one line thing twice.
