Story Behind the Song
Hank Williams Sr. motivated this song. I truly was at his grave site and experienced what became the words of the third verse! It became clear to me that I was not done writing, singing, and performing country music....In fact, I had only just begun!

One More Ride
Lyrics by Doug Adkins
Music by Doug Adkins / Gerd Vogel
Heard my mamma crying as we drove out of Nashville
We were going back to Alabam
I knew my mamma's dreams had been shattered
We were leaving the Tennessee promised land
You see my mamma had it in her to be a great country singer
I watched those dreams get pushed aside
Right there and then, that's when I made my decision
I'd give it one more ride
You gotta get on your feet, pull up your boots
Remember where you come from, go back to your roots
You gotta pick up your hat, reach deep inside, get back on that horse
And give it....one more ride
I remember quite a few years back now
I stopped off at a Cheyenne Rodeo
There was a rider in the program named Chris Ledoux
Some of you all might know
Well I remember that Cowboy he hit the ground so hard
For sure thought it broke his pride
Well he just got up, tipped his hat to the crowd and said
Let's give it one more ride
You gotta get on your feet, pull up your boots
Remember where you come from, go back to your roots
You gotta pick up your hat, reach deep inside, get back on that horse
And give it....one more ride
Well I gave up playing music last year in Montgomery
So I went down to see my old friend
And as I stood there drinking in the moonlight
I felt his spirit move in
Now I'm not saying that I really talked to Hank
But I swear I looked in those hollow eyes
I heard him say, "son, don't you know what how many here would give,"
To give it one more ride
You gotta get on your feet, pull up your boots
Remember where you come from, go back to your roots
You gotta pick up your hat, reach deep inside, get back on that horse
And give it....one more ride
Come on, Let's ride....
You gotta get on your feet, pull up your boots
Remember where you come from, go back to your roots
You gotta pick up your hat, reach deep inside, get back on that horse
And give it....one more ride
