    Story Behind the Song
After observing people struggling with dieting and health programs, I thought I'd capture it in a talking blues style. The song was written instantly without a struggle, both words and music. It was recorded on a Tascam 424 MK III using 5 tracks in a matter of 3 hours from start to finish.

    Lyrics
    VERSE 1

The doctor said I oughta go on a diet
So, I said, what the heck I think Ill try it
After all, what have I got to lose?
No more steaks, burgers and cheese
And no more pass the biscuits , please
Oh, and, by the way, cut the booze

    VERSE 2

So, I went to the store to get educated
On all the nutritious foods I always hated
To see exactly what Im allowed to eat
When I stooped down to read the label
I tried to get up and wasnt able
But 2 nice store clerks helped me to my feet

    CHORUS

Cut the calories, reduce the fat
Dont eat this and dont eat that
    Got the delectable, delirious
    Good nutrition blues

    VERSE 3

Well, Ive had cous cous and broiled fish
And a head of lettuce in an empty dish
But, nothing really seemed to hit the spot
So, I thought that it wouldnt hurt
To have a pint of ice cream for dessert
Mixed with chocolate syrup in a great big pot

    VERSE 4

Now, if I was born to eat like a rabbit
Youd think by now Id be in the habit
But theres still too much good stuff left to try
Oh, Ill eat my carrots and Ill eat my spinach
But, I guarantee you when Im finished
Ill treat myself to a Boston cream-filled pie
    CHORUS

Cut the calories, reduce the fat
Dont eat this and dont eat that
    Got the delectable, delirious
    Good nutrition blues

    VERSE 5

The doctor said I oughta eat more fruit
So, I thought to myself, what a hoot
I know just exactly where Ill start
The next morning at breakfast time
As soon as I heard that chow bell chime
I had a strawberry shake and a frosted fruit pop tart

    VERSE 6

I was bout to bust down the doctors door
When I couldnt take it any more
Then a brilliant idea came to mind
Take a pound of bacon and a pound of cheese
A jar of peanut butter (low-fat, please)
And stuff it in an empty watermelon rind (what a healthy treat)

    CHORUS

Cut the calories, reduce the fat
Dont eat this and dont eat that
    Got the delectable, delirious
    Good nutrition blues
