Story Behind the Song
This all started as an ode to the Slinky. I was trying to go for Slinky-like feel to the music. I started with a 40 track tune in Sonic Foundry Acid which I broke down to 4 stereo .wav files. These were then vocoded by and then vocoded on to four guitar tracks. I also recorded four GR-30 guitar synth tracks which were paired and then vocoded by and vocoded on each other. The spoken lyrics were originally only around 45secs but were stretched digitally to 2 minutes while maintaing the original pitch giving the sort of watery quality they have. The spoken lyrics then recieved some massaging plus the addition of echo. My friend Charlie Weeks added a somewhat unifying bass track. Finally I added the bell tracks which were sampled from some 1983 demo tapes. The final multitrack had 19 tracks when I finally mixed it down.
