Story Behind the Song
This song is about our 10 year fight to have all ages shows in Minneapolis. Why a city that prides itself on support of the arts is so dead set about kids having their own non-corporate music scene remains a mystery.
Anyone who was at the Bombshelter riot knows how seriously they seem to take the "threat" of punk shows in Minneapolis. Every night I go to sleep and dream that the Twin Cities has an all ages show space like Gilman St. or ABC No Rio. Then I wake up and see that reality means it's still a long fight ahead.
Lyrics
Don't like what we say, don't like how we dress
You can do a lot worse than skateboards and thrash
You can shut down our clubs, sweep our culture under the rug
Condemn our all ages show space, we'll be back with another place
These kids are gonna have their say
DIY underground, we always get the run around
These bands are going to fucking play
You can't make us go away
I hear the mayor likes Husker Du, how come we always get screwed?
Police are showing no restraint, old people making noise complaints
A life of crime is all I've known since I started booking all ages shows
These kids are going to have their say
Can we get some music outside the corporate club scene?
Garages and basements are all that I've seen
These bands are going to fucking play
You can't make us go away
This city tries to shut us down
Just don't want us around
But these kids are here to stay
All these bands are going to play
Y
