    Story Behind the Song
The Motivation for this song like must of the
songs on the American Family project is about
what a young boy or girl does or goes through
emotionally to survive in an abusive family.
This song was one of the easier songs to write
on this album. Lyrically and musically this
song came together in about 3-4 hours.
The over-all recording time took about 3 ½ hours.

    Lyrics
I'm to weak to put up a fight
livin' in the dark without any light
you took my faith and gave me fear
traded my dreams for smoke and mirrors
you crushed my childhood under your feet
and put it on a plate and made me eat

    Chorus

Block by block I build the wall
I build it high I build it tall
Block by block I build the wall
I build it high I build it tall
Block by block I build the wall
I build it high I build it tall
To keep my stone hard heart
To keep my stone hard heart
To keep my stone hard heart
Safe and warm, safe and warm, safe and warm

Innocence and love, I once held dear
what once was hope, now is fear
nothing to believe in, accept for lies
dealing with a pain that never dies
empty heart and an empty head
jump from a bridge, I'm better off dead
