    Story Behind the Song
Grateful...the title track from Michael's 3rd release by the same name, the entire album speaks with songs and stories of a young teenager on the road in the late 70's. While confronted with many obsticles, his faith and connection to spirit continued to bless him with providence, guidance, and safety..."God gives me all I can handle, but he never gave me more than I could take, and for that...I am grateful".

    Lyrics
Leaving Northern Oregon on my way back home,
lookin' for a road to call my own,
Thinkin' all the answers were just another county away...

On my way from Santa Fe I tripped upon a fork in the road,
no street sign, no story told,
South by Southwest by God, which way now?

    REFRAIN
And God gives me all I can handle,
but He never gave me more than I could take.
God knows I've been a handfull,
    I've been a handfull for heaven's sake.
And at times I've been wasted,
but they haven't been a waste of time... and for that, and for that...I am grateful.

The Greyhound in Dallas found me with a new friend,
she said her trip was nearing its end.
I could not pretend my road was less traveled

So I found me a condominium behind the front of an old Fairlane,
    she was a '61 Ford Fairlane 500.
You know that girl couldn't roam
but oh she had all the comforts of home.

    REFRAIN
