The farthest thing from 4-chord rock. It's not even 1 chord. It's ONE NOTE!! Drives the point home.
    CD: unreleased   Label: seven records
Credits: written, recorded, mixed by Victor Minetola

    Story Behind the Song
After reading about a "brilliant" one-note bass solo in a song by Einsturzende Neubauten, I set out to write an entire song around one note. The lrics came naturally. Atrophy is what happens to a muscle if it hasn't been used in a long time - it hardens up and desn't work anymore. This song is about being stuck in the mundane and not able to break out. Everybody sing along . . .monotony, monotony . . .

Written in NYC in 1995 and done as a demo on 4-track cassetee. Finally redid the music in May 2002. Vocals were done in September/Octover 2002.

No, I did not record me singing "monotony" once and loop it. Everytime you hear the word, it was me singing in real time.

Singing on one note is hard!

    Lyrics
    I feel so safe
    Right here where I am.
I don't ever want to leave.
    Afraid of what's ahead
    Left to right
    Right above
    I feel safe here -
I don't ever want to leave.
    Complacency is alright with me
    Stagnancy suits me just fine.
    Surround myself with sameness.
    All in unison.
    No harmony.
No consonance for fear of dissonance.
    Only what I know,
    What I've heard before.
    If it's all the same,
    There's no surprises.
Do the same thing again -
    No new compromises.
    Never spreading my wings.
    Never jumping.
    I'll just lay here
    In my familiarity.
    No uncertainties.
    Only what I know.
    All in unison.
    No real melody.
Waiting for the numbness to end . . .
    (monotony)
