Story Behind the Song
This song truly typifies how I've felt much of my life! I'd reach out and work at something, only to see it slip through the cracks. I was left feeling like a cowboy trying to rope the wind... When I realized most people felt the same way I did, I felt I had to write about it!
This song was written in Germany on a hillside overlooking a little village named Otterberg! The song only took about an hour to write initially, then I repolished the lyrics and chord changes for the next couple weeks.

ROPIN THE WIND
Lyrics by Doug Adkins
Music by Doug Adkins & Gerd Vogel
There I was, on a hillside standin' all alone
Like a rider in a storm, out on his own
Deep in the darkness, saw my dreams fade in the night
Turned my head to the left, then to the right
Said there's just some things you can't make right
I'm like a cowboy ropin' the wind,
I ask myself, Where in this world do I fit in
Throw my rope around a dream
Then it slips right through my fingers again
Like a cowboy, ropin' the wind
They always told me, that my life would shine so bright
Now I'm standin' in the moonlight, I wanna know
Should I turn left or right
I'm like a cowboy ropin' the wind,
I ask myself, Where in this world do I fit in
Throw my rope around a dream
Then it slips right through my fingers again
Like a cowboy, ropin' the wind
I just gotta know
Where my world will go from here
I ask myself that age-old question
What the hell am I doin' here
They always told me, that my life would shine so bright
Now I'm standin' in the moonlight, I gotta know
Should I turn left or right
I'm like a cowboy ropin' the wind, I ask myself
Where in this world do I fit in
Throw my rope around a dream
Then it slips right through my fingers again
Like a cowboy, ropin' the wind
We’re like cowboys ropin' the wind, We ask ourselves
Where in this world do we fit in
Throw a rope around our dreams
Then it slips right through our fingers again
Like cowboys, ropin' the wind
