Cinematic layer of music that plays in the opening of a film wherein credits are superimposed on a LA helicopter's nocturnal view of the city's architectural grid of skyscrapers and the canyons that wind between them. Close your eyes and fly above the City of Angels... Story Behind the Song
I was asked to compose an upbeat cinematic track that would reinforce a sweeping, panoramic aerial shot of Los Angeles at night for the opening credits of an independent film. Ultimately, the camera sweeps down and focuses on the main traffic arteries of the city, flooded with the multi-colored streams of lights. The aerial shoot gives way to a crane-operated overhead wideshot of Ventura and finally, Sunset Boulevard with its familiar view of LA night life bathed in the lights and shadows. Another track, "Street Walk" would actually be considered the sequel to "Ventura Boulevard" in the sense that it was written for the same project--some months later--and musically expresses the passing scene of night life and its players all along the boulevards of Los Angeles. Both tracks, "Ventura Boulevard" and "Street Walk" were inspired compositions which is my way of relating that they were quickly written at two different times. "Ventura..." was composed in 2000 and "Street..." in 2001. Technically, the mix, engineering, and mastering were done in quick measure as well. As for me, the composer, I have a fondness for both compositions for various reasons and always enjoy playback without that one twinge or notion of... "oh, damn... I need to rearrange these segment..." or "I need to reduce these 16 bars to 8..." and so on. I would conclude by sharing that both tracks are "what they are now" and except for slicing up the track for licensing purposes or the like, I am content with the composition as it is. Appreciate you, the reader for checking out my thoughts on this matter.
