Story Behind the Song
Originally written in 1990-91 during the Gulf War. The names have not been
changed to protect the guilty, now or then. Eerily, the lyrics are even
more applicable to 2002's events. The Powersthatbe are nothing if not
predicatable, I guess.
Bruce Cole - lyrics and music, rhythm guitar, vocals; Glenn Dubois - bass;
Greg McGowan - rhythm and lead guitars; Jeff Densmore - drums. Recorded and
mixed at Sunset House Studios, Waldo, Maine - Glenn Dubois, engineer.
Lyrics
Walker's a liar, but nobody knows.
He's got the CIA, he's got the CEO's
He's got the pathology to pull off the scam
There ain't nothin' to it if you follow the plan.
Herbie's a burglar, but nobody cares.
He took the money and he ran up the stairs;
He's in the White House hangin' out with the Law
'Cause you can't be accused of what nobody saw.
CHORUS: Good gawd, you better wake up!
Some multi-mega-company just bought up all the news;
The wars (whores) come on at 6 o'clock, that's just the tools they use.
You said that Mr. Orwell was wrong about the date?
I definitely agree with that...the poor old boy was late!
CHORUS
Johnny's a gunner, he's hungry for meat;
He's heard the word that's goin' down on the street
He want's revenge...he want's it now:
He's pullin' down a bead on the Sacred Cow.
Jorge's (Georgie's) a renegade, there's blood on his hands,
Oil in his arteries and cyanide inside his glands,
There's ballots and bullets and bodies, the lawyers are startin' to freak;
You want another war you've gotta wait another week.
Good gawd, you better...
Wake Up Before It Hits You
