    Story Behind the Song
Wrote this song back in 1998 about a fictional situation between a boy and a girl. Turned out to be quite a little story here. Very folk inspired.

    Lyrics
    Hot Summer Days
    Words and Music by
    Scott Rogers (ASCAP)

We used to play outside in a hundred degree heat
The day would just wear on and on
We had nowhere to go and nothin' to see
Just layin' in the shade with dreams of what we would be

Now the boys hated the girls
and those girls never liked the boys
But on those hot summer days, man,
there was always a girl that stole my heart away

    -Chorus-
    When we were together
    There was nothin' better
Just the two of us forever we'd stay
    on those hot summer days

Mary and me we'd ride for hours
two kids on bikes bigger than us
    Playin' basketball in the heat
chasin' each other in our bare feet

Never tellin our friends where we were
always stealin glances when we could
It was always me and my girl
laughin' and cryin without a care in the world

    -Chorus-

Yeah we'd go runnin between raindrops
holding hands, kissing underneath the rain
dreamin' of the days when we'd get older
tellin' each other we'd be together forever

One day i knew it would end
never knew it would come so soon
Mary had to move away and leave me behind
I didnt know where or understand why

That night we snuck out one last time
I knew she was going, going for good
I held her tight and I kissed her goodbye
    on a hot summer night

    -Chorus-

We used to play outside in a hundred degree heat
The day would just wear on and on
We had nowhere to go and nothing to see
just layin in the shade with dreams of what we would be.
