Story Behind the Song
I wanted to write a song that made me feel as though I were lying on a warm, sandy beach watching birds flying overhead. I often imagine myself lying on such a beach
with the wind gently blowing over me as I drift off to sleep. It's an incredible simulation.
This is a very early version of the song, with me soloing on all the instruments and vocals. The recording was done on a 2-track Teac reel-to-reel in 2-3 takes. I'm not sure which version this is, but it's the only one that remains from the session. I apologize for the poor musicianship and recording quality, but I think the tune
rises above the medium.
Lyrics
Windswept, tears of love get your feet wet
Dreams of places and some friends met
You'll bet, all the clouds are free
On a windswept day, where the birds are flying so high today
Sunset, trace the steps back to the love you left
"Take a breath of nothing heard" she said
Instead, blades of grass seem green
On a windswept day, where the sun's so warm it takes your breath away
As the waves come out, you're miles away
Near forever and a day
Hear an echo call, you can almost hear her say, "Hush"
On a windswept day, where the birds are flying so high today
On a windswept day, where the birds are flying so high today
Moonswept, hilltop fallows let your heart set
Unseen nightlife in their shady rest
In bed, nothing can be seen
On a windswept day, all the stars are shining; you can hold their light
As the waves come out, you're miles away
Near forever and a day
Hear an echo call, you can almost hear her say, "Hush"
On a windswept day, where the birds are flying so high today
On a windswept day, On a windswept day, On a windswept day...
