    Story Behind the Song
Of the 150-odd songs and pieces I've written, this one took the longest. It started as a synthesizer and drum machine loop on my computer. When working on my third CD, I revisited the piece and began to build an acoustic guitar and bass structure based on the song. I workshopped it with my band and even recorded us on a jambox rehearsing it. Before we could hit the studio, my drummer moved to Belize. So I threw the jambox recording on the computer and worked the basic drumbeat into a loop. Then one day in the shower, I composed the bridge, with violin and sax. I toweled off, write out the sheet music and had a finished piece. By the time the recording was complete, the thing had been in my head for almost three years.

    Lyrics
caught the mystery at age 9 and then I strayed from it
tired and old by sixteen with memories of glory gone
I was open to the power that god had sewn in the frame
now stitches snipped and I've a hole and emptiness

1st blade was drawn by one I loved the most
but there's no blame she truly thought it was her or me
she cried for hours and said it was too much to bear
and it'd be easier if I 'd just take this part and go

and now you speak of years gone by
like there were more than a few
and tell tales of us a million miles down the road
now the weight of age can make it hard to breathe
but you move with grace enough to guide us both

oh but I fear this tale is not merely at chapter's end
and those tired eyes; will I ever know what they've held again?

caught the mystery at age nine and then I strayed from it
tired and old by sixteen with memories of glory gone
I was opened to the power that god had sewn in your frame
it'd be easier if you'd just take this part and go
