Ah... back to work. This is the first complete of a number of new songs I'm working on. See if you can guess the source of the speech samples... |

Story Behind the Song
About 6 years ago I knew a girl who was a singer/songwriter... about 21 years old. She was tied to this idea that anything and everything that ever didn't go exactly her way was the fault of sexism in society. The "man" was keeping her down. Yes... there are cases where this kind of thing is very real, but trust me... it was very nearly a fetish for her. No dear, sometimes things just don't go your way. :) The chorus is sarcastic, thus the "Yeah, yeah, yeah" background vox at the end. The speech samples have very real meaning to the song once the message is understood. Enjoy!
Lyrics
[Verse1]
You only hear
just a few of the things you say.
You only say
what feels good to you on that particular day.
[Verse2]
You fall behind,
you get tripped up, all because you jump the gun.
He may be strong,
might bend you in half, but you're the bendable one.
[Chorus]
Behind every man there is a woman giving him a flat tire.
They say you'll stay behind forever, cuz you can't keep up.
No you can't keep up.
[Bridge]
You seem to think we should say what we mean
when you don't mean what ya say to your lover.
No, you seem to think we should say what we mean
when you don't mean what ya say to your lover.
[Verse3]
You need more than a word,
or an angry gesture to wrestle down a man.
So close your mouth,
put away that finger, and fight me with both of your hands.
[Chorus]
Behind every man there is a woman giving him a flat tire.
They say you'll stay behind forever, cuz you can't keep up.
No you can't keep up.
