Story Behind the Song
My New Years resolution was to be a creative voice for peace in the world. My inate passion for peace and hatred of war is expressed in a series of songs focused on war and peace in the new Millenium. My first songs were directed at trying to bring peace and understanding to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. I feel that this is at the core of our Mid-East problems
Drums of war reflect the current focus in America on Iraq . It reflect the need to achive a balance in our approach. The saving grace of Democray is our right to disagree. That war has many consequences for every one. There is an OK Corral anolgy that adds a lighter touch to the gravity of the song. The song was started in my artist studio in Pebble Beach. August,2002 and will never be finished as long as there are drum beats of war. I have a Roland Vs 1620 digital recording studio next to my easle so I compose both on Canvas and Keyboards and Guitars in the same time frame.
Lyrics
We can hear the beating of your drums calling us to war
Before we go, we want to know, What are we fighting for
I wouldn’t trade a drop of American Blood For all the oil in the Mid-East
You can beat your drums of war. We’ll take our stand for peace.
Well give our life if need be to keep our Country free,
The saving grace of democracy is our right to disagree,
Better think twice in the voting booth about the course of our destiny
Saddam Huessein a belligerent thug who is really so easy to hate
You say take him out now it will be easy there is really no reason to wait
Your party needs a decisive victory for seat in the senate and the house
Even if Bin Laden is a desert lion and Saddam is a desert mouse
S A D D A M M O U S E
Could all this haste this frantic pace Relate to election time
You better be right when you make your case to rush solders to the front line
Our fighting men are not toy solders to be moved by politician’s hands
They are flesh and Blood who live and love the freedom for which we stand
They would give their life if need be to keep our Country free
The Saving grace of Democracy is our right to disagree.
Better think twice in the voting booth about the course of our destiny
We can hear the beating of your drums calling us to war
Before we go, we want to know, What are we fighting for
I wouldn’t trade a drop of American Blood For all the oil in the Mid-East
You can beat your drums of war. We’ll take our stand for peace.
Cowboy boots kick ass diplomacy will not get this job done
If only Bush could use his brains as quick as he draws his guns
The Mid -East is not the OK Corral, It is not high Noon in Iraq.
Cheny is playing the hanging Judge, Rumfeld ready to attack
Bush is chaffing at the bit , to play Wyatt Earp, some day.
His faithful side kick, Tony Blair, will be playing Doc Holiday.
They will play their roles as leaders , acting bravely on the world’s stage.
To rally and send young fighting men off, to where the Battles rage.
Mr. cowboy President war will stain America and your hands blood red
With the blood of innocent children and the blood of our own dead.
For every hundred soldiers killed, A million votes you’ll lose,
Gifts for families of these dead soldiers , Red, White and Christmas Blues.
Carefully folded American flags, That draped the coffins and body bags ,
Of Brave heroes they loved who died in war that need not be.
The shock waves felt from this war, will only lead to more.
More Hate, More deaths, more terror, more bloodshed in this world.
We can hear the beating of your drums calling us to war
Before we go, we want to know, What are we fighting for
I wouldn’t trade a drop of American Blood For all the oil in the Mid-East
You can beat your drums of war. We’ll take our stand for peace.
Well give our life if need be, to keep our Country free,
The saving grace of democracy is our right to disagree,
Better think twice in the voting booth about the course of our destiny
