I wanted to put together a song with distinct sections that could be used individually or layered. I tried to use a range of sounds and instruments that I hoped would evoke a wide range of emotions to emulate what I imagined as moments in the life of a spy. I added modern rhythmic elements into the song to tie it all together. |

Story Behind the Song
A few years ago I ventured into the world of sound design and soundtrack recording through a local cable access company. I had to relocate shortly thereafter and abandoned the business. I still have aspirations toward this type of production so occasionally I will plant an idea and work it out on my own. This tune is a case of mistaken identity as I was exploring rythmic ideas based around certain genres while playing with meter and tempo. Oddly enough I had originally created this idea based around a fast polka rhythm and used an urb sample for the bass. After a couple months of letting the idea simmer I opened it again and changed the style to a more standard beat and added textural elements. Once I ahd the idea of a spy song in mind I simply used my imagination to fill in the blanks as it were and the result was Spy Song. All told, I have about 10-12 hours into the song and there is room for improvement and interpretation.
