Story Behind the Song
After Mack's completely unexpected death in a mysterious car crash in the mid-90's, Joseph wrote this song as an expression of grief and nostalgia. There are references to many old memories of things Mack said about dreams he had, of our infamous trip to the desert with Henry, of the tawdry bachelorette apartment that Mack and Ron shared on Katella in the late 70's, where all the guests were invited to paint on the walls; and of later visits to see him with his family in Sonora, near Yosemite, where he seemed to have found a measure of peace, though not yet having brought his gifts as teacher and healer to their full fruition.
