    Story Behind the Song
The song is dennis' feelings about that great state of North Dakota & Grand Forks.
Bill had just undergone an operation to remove a cancerous cytoma 2.5 weeks earlier and was scheduled for chemotherapy the next week so the gang got together for some tunes.
Recorded live, into a cassette recorder in Bill's living room With the band & some friends sitting in. Imported into n-Track Studio and Acoustica, where some adjustments were made to bring up Dennis' vocals.

    The Band & Friends are:
Alleen Johnson, Bass Guitar & Vocals
Dennis Johnson, Acoustic Guitar & Lead Vocal
Tom West, Banjo & Banjo & Vocals
Bill Miltenberger, Acoustic Guitar & Vocals
    Dale Driggers, Electric Slide Guitar
    Bobby Jackson, Elevtric Rhythm Guitar.

    Lyrics
    Grand Forks (copyright 1997)
    Dennis & Alleen Johnson

Well there's a town to the North
    Where the seasons bring forth
Every profain reaction that's known to man
So if your name is Carlson, Lund, Hanson or Johnson,
You're gonna head south just as soon as you can

    (CHORUS)
And if the weather will let ya
The mosquitoe's 'er gonna get ya
That's Grand Forks ya bet ya
    My home on the plains

That Red River is havin' ya
    Flow North up into Canada
Along with the neighbors, mud, ice and snow
Well you can pray all you like
    as it's cresting the dike
But she don't flow too good when it's 40 below

    (REPEAT CHORUS)

    When it's finally summer
    Well don't you know it's a bummer
You go to the park to take in the air
    Well it's rainin' & it's blowin'
Well, at least it's not snowin'
Let's go get our ponchos & take in the fair

    (REPEAT CHORUS)

Well, now to leave North Dakota
    Don't you know there's a quota
For leaving our state, only 6 in a year
    But what a beautiful site
    When you finally take flight
Grand Forks water tower just a spec in the mirror

    (REPEAT CHORUS)

That's Grand Forks ya bet ya my home on the plains
