A tongue-in-cheek look at UK acoustic indie music.
CD: The Wine Hits The Spine (Concept Album)   Label: Strapido Records Deutschland
Credits: Richard Hall (Acoustic guitar/vocals), Gary Herrington (Electric guitar)

    Story Behind the Song
In summer 2001 Richard Hall reached the end of his tether. Bored with the constant barrage of acoustic “play-in-the-background-while-I-eat-pasta-with-my-girlfriend” music being played by UK radio and TV stations, he wrote BS Indie Song one morning in order to demonstrate how structurally simplistic the genre of music is. The result became a cult classic tune across the land, often performed by disillusioned guitar playing students while drinking themselves stupid on wine before and/or after a night out. This particular recording was made on Saturday 18th May, 2002 at 9:38pm in Richard’s bedroom in 22 Goddard Avenue, Hull while local children hot wired a red Ford Escort in the supermarket car park behind the house.

    Lyrics
I wanna be a folk singer
So I'll write myself a song
    Pick up my old guitar
    And start to strum along
    I'm in to David Gray
    I'm into Travis too
    I just hope that someday
I can write the songs that they do

So I put a bit of e-minor in my song
And I put a bit of G, D and C in my song
But just enough to sing along
    So sing along

I don't believe in rock and roll
    It makes my ears bleed
    Just an acoustic guitar
And my voice are all I need
I write my songs on cliches
    My lyrics aren't my own
    But my record contract guarantees
    I'm gonna be well known

Cos I put a bit of e-minor in my song
And I put a bit of G, D and C in my song
But just enough to sing along
    So sing along

I'm not very good on guitar
    And I can't really sing
It's fortunate that in this world
    Talent isn't everything
I hope you folks are listening
    I hope you understand
I just didn't have enough friends
    To form a proper band

But I put a bit of e-minor in my song
And I put a bit of G, D and C in my song
But just enough to sing along
    So sing along
