Fast, heavy riffs blaze through time and tempo changes, leading through a melodic interlude and back again. Lyrics based on HP Lovecraft's short story by the same name. Recorded in Vince's basement & Tim's dorm in late September 2002. This is the rough mix of the song. |

Story Behind the Song
Lyrics
I struggle in the dark
Arising, impending night
The horizon fades, and
Shadows engulf the light
My eyes are fixed
On that horrid tower
The haunter watches me
Will the be my final hour?
On this eve it has been seen
Through twisted veins of light
Wanderlust invades my dreams
It’s coming for me tonight
Hiding in this room,
Respite in the candle's glow
Still reeling from the dreams
Of the horrors only I know
The black mist that looks through me
Is still there when I shut my eyes
My pulse is racing, fear is raging
Each breath, a final sigh
On this eve it has been seen
Through twisted veins of light
Living shadows invade my dreams
It’s coming for me tonight
Celestial wisdom I now hold
I know the truth
Gazing to the western skies
I know the truth
Silhouette of fear
I know the truth
Shadows tear through the night
The storm is drawing near
Tonight
I have whirled with the earth at the dawning,
When the sky was a vaporous flame;
I have seen the dark universe yawning
Where the black planets roll without aim,
Where they roll in their horror unheeded,
Without knowledge or lustre or name.
I had drifted o'er seas without ending,
Under sinister grey-clouded skies,
That the many-forked lightning is rending,
That resound with hysterical cries....
Grant the lightning strength
For only it can save me
I see things unknown before
Things that cannot be
I feel the tower reaching to me
Light is dark and dark is light
Raging hell-wind, I'm helpless
I give myself up to the night
On this eve it has been seen
Through twisted veins of light
The haunter that invades my dreams
Is coming for me tonight
