This is the best song you've never heard in your life. You should download it immediately and tell all your friends about it. It's got everything. Steady acoustic rolling brightly in the background and laid-back lead, a la Dickie Betts. Vocals are upfront and honest, and a a grooving bass keeps it down and gets the toes moving. It will change your life, honest to garsh, I tell ya.
Credits: All of the singing, playing, writing, and mixing is me.

    Story Behind the Song
This song was a birthday present to my father, but was just as much a gift to myself. It's a reminder, which I've needed a few times in my life, of what's important and why.

    Lyrics
All the songs I try to write since she left home all start the same, "I don't know how, I don't know who or why". And I can't seem to find the place where everything is right and where the stars at night don't seem to shy away.

How did I lose my sense of self and will I find it in the last place that I look, and will it look like me? Too many questions I can't answer for my taste. I think I need a break, I think I'm going home. Maybe Dad will know.

Call him up on Tuesday night and say "the car's not acting right, what do you think?.. and by the way I'm coming home". A Dirt Band dittie greats my ears with a "hello, son, do you want a beer.. you're just in time the burgers are almost done."

I see the pictures on his wall... there's a happy kid playing tee-ball and a happier man standing by his side. I always thought he threw too hard but it made me watch and it made me hard. I see the look on his face, that boy is ready to play. Note to self, ‘better thank your Dad today’.

Every gun's loaded, every tool has a home, and that attitude I won't condone. Do you get me boy, are you hearing what I say? Don't tolerate a bully and don't be mean, take care of your brother and do the right thing. Keep your hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road. You're heart knows best Son, don't you let it get cold.

I think back on those lessons learned and the look in his eyes and the weight of his words and the strength in his hands... you know the world was all too clear. And all he ever tried to be was everything that I could need. He showed me the way by following close behind.

And in that moment I can see my sense-of-self staring back at me. I know who I am, what I want and want to be. I see that man who threw too hard to an eager boy in the front of the yard. I see the look on his face, that smile is seeming to say... you know you're gonna thank your Dad one day.

    Chorus

Wednesday morning I drop my bag by the front of the door and I take his hand, "you know, seeing you, Dad, was all I needed to do. Thanks for being my Dad. I love you".
