	Story Behind the Song I wrote this long ago to the tune of Jack and Diane by Mellancamp. Probably it was the first Christian song I wrote. I remember it came to me while I was mowing the lawn. I first shared it was a Vacation Bible school group in Wardell MO. Lyrics Jesus Loves Me Jesus Loves me. Yes I know the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong there weak but he is strong You can’t believe everything you hear is true But you best believe when I say that God loves you But don’t just take my word sight unseen The Bible says God so loved the world in John 3:16 That he gave his only begotten son, the messiah That we might not be a slave to sin but reach higher And higher I’m getting high with the most high He gave me eternal life and my soul will never die Jesus Loves me. Yes I know the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong there weak but he is strong I first heard about him back in Sunday School My Sunday School teacher said that Jesus was cool People gathered around just to hear him talk He taught the blind to see and the lame to walk But not everyone loved him, not everyone understood And they hung my friend Jesus on a cross made of wood Now he cried father forgive them they know not what they do Then he hung his head and he died for me and you Jesus Loves me. Yes I know the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong there weak but he is strong I felt real bad and I missed my friend But 3 days later Jesus Christ he rose again Then I knew and know I understand He the Savior as well as the sacrificial lamb The moral to this little ditty aint hard to find But to make sure you get it I’m put it on the line Jesus knocks at your hearts door waiting to be let in Why don’t you open it and let him be your friend Jesus Loves me.
