Story Behind the Song
The Judge came up with the wise-ass song title 'Heroin Beach Party' while drinking Coors Lite and hitting on Marco's sister. Marco wrote the body of the song while the Judge was being held hostage by Basque seperatists. Upon his release, the Judge edited out the song's baffling profanity and re-wrote the lyrics in a more radio-friendly idiom. The song was recorded at Unique studios, engineered by the extraordinary Adam Hawkins, in one drunken, sprawling Saturday night. New York Scene luminaries like guitar-freakshow Crash (the 'Dark Jesus') and Mr. Ed came to lend their voices to the chorus, along with assorted females, and we pounded the thing out in three takes, plus secondary guitar and vocal tracks.
Lyrics
Down by the ocean
Under the boardwalk
A party's goin' on you're not supposed to see
But if you come and take a look as the sun goes down, ask for Sandman and say you know me
He'll get you a chair & a pillow & a blanket-- it sure is comfy, but nothing's free
He only takes cash, and nothing but Twenties, but oh, can't you feel that breeze?
Annette and Frankie had parties like these--
and then they all fell to their knees
'cause it's a
Heroin Beach Party-
Everybody's throwing up under the Boardwalk
Heroin Beach Party-
Everybody's throwing up under the sun
Heroin Beach Party-
Everybody's throwing up under the moonlight
Heroin Beach Party-
Come down and get you some
Down on the bowery, just off of St. Mark's Place,
A gilr on the street asked me for change
She hasn't been the same since she met the Sandman;
she tells me she feels strange
And sooner or later he's gonna start takin' the tax on her body and the tax on me
Watch us all wash away, and don't lift a finger
'Cause Sandman fulfills her needs
And he listens while she pleads
And she'll do his dirty deeds
Down at the
Everybody's throwing up under the Boardwalk
Heroin Beach Party-
Everybody's throwing up under the sun
Heroin Beach Party-
Everybody's throwing up under the moonlight
Heroin Beach Party-
Send Frankie back out to go cop-
Annette, who said you could stop?-
Let's take it from the top...
BRIDGE
Early in the morning
At the end of the evening
Wonderin' what happened
Was that Really me?
Maybe I was dreamin'
That I killed the Sandman
But Lord, how'd I get his car keys?
And I feel a little woozy
kinda lightheaded
driving out of town, thanks for sticking with me
and I suppose I should feel guilty
That I killed the party
but the party was gonna kill me
Everybody, can't you see?
You've got to fight to get free...
(Chorus)
