In all honesty, we had no idea what this song was about when we wrote the lyrics, but we've decided it's about an escaped convict kidnapper who'salso delusional. |

Story Behind the Song
Trent had written the music to this song, and after I wrote the lyrics for the chorus to get us started, he and Trevor and I sang random lyrics over the verses and decided to keep what sounded best. We ended up deciding later that it was about a kidnapper, because it fits. He's delusional- in some ways, he doesn't even know he's kidnapping the girl. For making no effort to make sense, we sure can be deep. This recording is from the "Rind Sessions" of July 2002
Lyrics
Sleeping under the bridge
where I'd stolen my first kiss
I was awakened
by a small heartache
We were happy but alone
we are gone, but we'll be home
I'll be under the blankets
holding you tightly
we are not what we were
and we don't even know that we're changing
I want to escape...
CHORUS
I want to run away
and never come back again
I want to run away
and take you away with me
I want to run away
and never look back again
holding you in my arms
as we fade away
Watch the ground go by below
no direction, but we go
into the darkness
through the moonlight
all my words fail to describe-
swept away in velvet tide
all that's left are
contemplations
I was lost and I found you
and you loved me and I loved U2
but I don't know what I mean
CHORUS
Instrumental break
CHORUS
As sweetly, we fade into night.
