From The Liturgical Year (Das Orgelbüchlein), a project of which Bach completed 45 of his projected 164 short chorale preludes for the church year, this beautiful and intimate setting of the Lord's Prayer is dominated by a four-note motive (A-E-G-F) and its inversion (A-E-C#-D), indeed one or the other appears in nearly every beat. Arranged for Oboe, Clarinet, English Horn, Bassoon and Cello. |

Story Behind the Song
Part of an ongoing series of eranscriptions of Bach's Liturgical Year for sampled instruments.
Lyrics
German:
Vater unser im Himmelreich,
Der du uns alle heisset gleich
Brüder sein und dich rufen an
Und willst das Beten von uns ha'n:
Gib, dass nicht bet' allein der Mund;
Hilf, dass es geh' aus Herzens Grund.
English:
Our Father in the heaven Who art,
Who tellest all of us, in heart
Brothers to be, and on Thee call
And wilt have prayer from one and all,
Grant that the mouth not only pray,
From deepest heart O help its way.
