Story Behind the Song
Where I Belong was a song I wrote back in 1998 but couldn't really sing at the time. As the years went on my voice progressed and I found I could sing it half-way decently. I made some four-track demos with two part harmonies but never planned to do much with the song. When Chris Titchner, Andrew Miskavage, Aaron Ritchie, Arthur Adams and I formed My 2 Dollars, (an unfortunately short-lived but very fun band full of potential) we took "Where I Belong" and really threw it over the top. Adding four and five part harmonies, a killer drum track, and some great piano licks really made the song. The version that's on "Left Standing" (this one) is basically what we were originally striving for with My 2 Dollars. The song itself was written for a high school senior banquet to reflect on the changes that were coming in our lives. This was the first song I wrote for it. I didn't end up using this one so I wrote another one called "All These Years" (also on "Left Standing") and performed it with friend Joe Tymecki at the senior banquet (and there were some tears from a few friends... "ahhhhhh...."). I know, the concept's pretty lame but I think the two songs are very cool - especially this one!
