Check out this review I got from GodsOfMusic dot com: "From the get-go, Simple So Forbidden Fruit evokes a dreamily eerie dark mood. You immediately are taken into the uncertainty that the vocalist is feeling. It is nice to hear a group that is not afraid to put out substance before style. Not to say that style is not present in this track; it is a pleasant departure from the down and dirty heavy alternative that is prevalent in today's music. Substance is what drives this tune. There is an elegant balance of all the instruments in the mix. No one aspect out shines the next. The melody's are very well crafted, and the harmonies help to create that spooky dark feeling that spoke to me. Elysian Fury is definitely on to something with this track." - cary harmon, godsofmusic.com

    Story Behind the Song
A personal tape recording exsists from january of 1999... it is a confession from a boy with a guitar. he explains that he is developing a mysterious crush on mike drennen's ex-girlfriend, and the look in her eyes drives him mad like the beating of the tell-tale heart. Little does he know that a taste of this forbidden fruit will lead to grave danger... but at this time no decisions are made, only a confession for the purpose of personal therapy.

    - - - -

the lo-fi tape recording of forbidden fruit (version 1) haunted me for years, "like a splinter in my mind, driving me mad"... in the back of my head i knew it was one of the best songs I ever wrote, and decided to re-record it with a trippy production and a hi-fi quality the track deserves.

    Lyrics

    She's my friend's ex-girl... you know what I mean?

But she's the one that I love most

    She's all I'll ever need

    yeah, she's forbidden fruit

(edit): i'll die after I have loved her

and I know she can give me all

    because she wants it

    you know she needs it

and because she wants it you can see it in her eyes

and I know that I don't have a simple choice like you

    I seem so confused!

I so wish I had to think as simple as you do

these times they take me so far away

i knew it once but now it's gone

memory is lost, so simple so gone

    SIMPLE SO GONE

and I hear you cry again

I know i dont have a simple choice like you

memory is lost, simple so gone

    simple so gone

and i dont want to wait but i know it would be great

    la da da da

if i had just one night with her

it's the look that makes me want a try

    look in her eyes!

it's that look that makes me wanna try

see that look in her eyes?
