Story Behind the Song
Adolphus wrote and recorded "Adolphus - Downtown" after a brief vacation in Chicago, Illinois to visit his old friend, Cram, who had become a dentist. Impressed by Chicago's expanse and bustle, Adolphus wanted to create a mood which would capture the city's unique feel. According to Cram, upon completion of the recording, Adolphus said "I wanted to capture the heat of city life in one song - it reminds me of my ex girlfriend Amanda who always wanted to leave Sisters, Oregon to visit a major city at least once in her life. She left me to follow this dream and made it as far as Peoria, where she was hit by a crane."
