Story Behind the Song
A better friend than most humans Written in Greenwhich Village NYC in 1974 about a dog that lived in the Brooklyn streets and hung around a Concrete Mixer yard where I worked as a driver. It took 25 years, 5 productions and a forgotten amount of takes and frustration to the many exceptional Musicians that watched me write away my guilt. The final Production was recorded and performed by myself.

Stray dog, sitting on the Brooklyn pier, Stray dog, you better get away from here Stray dog, looking like you’ve never slept, Stray dog, the winter brings the cruelest death
My friend, nobody’s going to take you home,
Dirty dog,
You're carrying your troubles all alone
(bridge)
Its just unfortunate that you were never born in a puppy palace store,
to a family and a home.
You’re just not lucky,
It don’t matter what you try,
There’s nothing I can do,
Don’t look me in the eye
(Verse 3)
Stray dog, sleeping in the filthy street, Stray dog, begging for a bite to eat.
My friend, Looking like you’ve lost your fight,
Dirty dog you’re never going to make it through the night.
(Chorus)
I found him in the morning,
An eerie looking sight.
Lying in a truck yard,
He made it through the night.
Howling in the air, I heard him everywhere.
Stray dog, you wont leave me alone,
Dirty dog, I can’t be taking you home
Stray dog, Go away dog Stray dog,
The world don’t have no time for you
Cause nobody cares at all
Nobody cares at all
