Story Behind the Song
Fassaroe is a fertile valley with rolling hills within the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, a few miles from the pretty village of Inneskerry. The "fields" are rolling hills of very green grass and small wild woodlands. Claire use to exercise her horses here ..... and eventually wrote this passionate love song.
Lyrics
All through the afternoon
The wind blew cold,
But we were warm
Looking at the fields
Cruel people far behind the mountains
You cannot touch us here
We have no fear of meeting you here!
We walked the golden paths near the river singing,
And it sang to it's only listeners,
A song sweet as the rhythms in the hills.
Lover near me, can I hide my soul
Near your loving body?
Far from the maddening crowd,
I'll sing my songs aloud,
Listen to me now.
Fields beneath the sky,
This earthly heaven,
There are no people here to harm us,
Do not fear my wild eyed lover.
Do not fear my wild eyed lover,
I will hold you close,
I will hold you close,
I will hold you close 'til the wind,
'Til the wind stops blowing for us.
