Story Behind the Song
This is an old Crusader hymn, sung by the defenders of our homeland against the conquering Saracen empire, while they marched into battle.
I tried to make the percussion simple, according to the recommendation of one of my cultural teachers, who said that tympani are the best kind of drumming.
As in the case of all my songs, I prayed first to my Master to make the song for and through me, and I slept at least one night before programming and singing it.
The version on the "Dances for Goth" cd was captured and mastered by Dan Merrill, of Broadway Recording Studios (Broadway Computer) in Frostburg Maryland. He does a verily professional job, and he is a perfectionist.
Lyrics
Fairest Lo'ward Jesus,
Ruler of all nature,
O, Thou of God and man the son,
Thee will I cherish,
Thee will I honor,
Thou my soul's glory, joy, and crown.
Fair are the meadows,
Fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of Spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.
Fair is the sunshine,
Fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer,
Than all the angels Heaven can boast.
