Story Behind the Song
You know that saying about how pets and their owners look alike after awhile? Or how women who hang out together, wind up on the same ‘cycle’...well, at the time we wrote this tune, it seemed that Ava and I were experiencing parallel lives. She presented me with the first verse and chorus lyrics. I heard the melody in my head immediately, and I sang it to her straight out. We wrote the second verse, finishing each other’s sentences. The chords took me some time. The vocal came easily (Teddy loves to get me in one or two takes), and served as a final letting go emotionally for me. For Ava too, I think, because it was done, and on CD in 0’s and 1’s.
Lyrics
THANK YOU
L.Ferro/A.Parnass
And I wished you would be who I wanted you to be
And I wished you would do what I wanted you to do
And I wished you would listen when I wanted you to listen
Oh I wished you would love me how I wanted you to love me
*But now I want to thank you
For bringing me such pain
And I want to thank you
For driving me insane
And I want to thank you
Most of all, most of all
For forcing me to change, change, change, change
I still wear your shirt, but only in the daytime
And I walk by your place, but I don’t look in the window
And I still check my calls, but I won’t phone you and hang up
And I’m writing all these songs, and you can’t make me shut up, you can’t make me
*But now I want to thank you
For bringing me such pain
And I want to thank you
For driving me insane
And I want to thank you
Most of all, most of all
For forcing me to change, change, change, change
You were the one who shuffled the cards, but I had the luck of the draw
You didn’t know how resilient I was, and that was your fatal flaw
And I wished you would be who I wanted you to be
And I wished you would do what I wanted you to do
And I wished you would listen when I wanted you to listen
Oh I wished you would love me how I wanted you to love me, I wanted you to,
Wanted you to
*But now I want to thank you
For bringing me such pain
And I want to thank you
For driving me insane
And I want to thank you
Most of all, most of all
For forcing me to change, change, change, change
