Story Behind the Song
Here in the small town of Friendswood, Texas crime is something that happens in our big sister a few miles north of here, Houston. The horror of a missing and then murdered child came to town. A monster arrived and destroyed the innocence of this town forever.
I was one of the hundreds who spent every day looking for our towns missing child. I cried when we were told she had been found, murdered, her killer is yet unknown and perhaps he or they will never be known to us but surely to God. This summer of 2002 brought that horror back as we witnessed child after child vanishing without a trace. This song was not intended for this CD but after many good friends who heard it, especially Ralph encouraged me to put this song out now. Ralph is a Houston police offier, my best friend and the son I never had. He as three children and this crusty but gentle giant told me that this song needed to be heard. I sincerly hope that this song helps someone somewhere. I have been writing songs since around the age of six. I firmly believe that this one is the most important song I will ever write. I assure that it is indeed from the heart. The photo that is with this song, is one my wife took of me the day we heard that the child we were looking for had been found. It's in our garden, my place to think, to be at peace and I hope this song allows you to be in your garden and be at peace. God bless.
Lyrics
Where is the child? Taken all alone.
Where is the child? So far from home.
Where is the child?
Mothers and Fathers so numb, they can't even
begin to mourn. Forever they will weep, even in their sleep, for the child taken from home.
A special place for the child all alone with angels surrounding, with heavenly love, heavenly light forever shown all around the child taken from home.
In my dreams, there is a valley, a valley oh, so green. The child is safe, and dreams children's dreams. They play, oh, they laught, surrounded with heavenly love, heavenly light all around.
If you listen, you may hear the far-off music of the dove, singing, they're forever young, forever, in our hearts, forever safe, no more alone.
The precious child taken all alone, if you listen you may hear the far-off music of the dove, singing, forever young, forever in our hearts, forever safe, no more alone.
So when you weep, oh where can they be? See that heavenly valley, forever young, forever in our hearts, the precious child no more alone, the precious child is safe at home.
