Story Behind the Song
For every man who goes down to the sea in ships there is a woman waiting on the shore. This song is about just such a man and his "Unique" wife and his lover, the sea. It took 32 years to write this song, it had to be lived first. It took an hour to write it down and it took fifteen minutes to record it. It was and is a song truly from the heart. In a way it's a love song, a mutual love affair between a man, the sea and his woman.
Lyrics
Oh my baby loves me and I surely love her back, but my baby knows me very, very well, she knows the day is coming when I bid her a fond farewell.
Through that old bedroom window the sun comes shining through every morning, the far off mountains are closing in on me. I feel the tide is changing and I hear the song of the sea, calling, telling me how lonesome she is without me.
My baby knows me very, very well, she knows the day is coming when I bid her a fond farewell.
Soon she'll see it in my eyes, sh'll hear those old familiar sighs, she'll just smile that certain smile and go on with her day.
Oh the look in her eye tells stories of a far-off dream.
Someday I will return and perhaps the land will be my home, days of wandering free from my bones, the Lady Of The Sea wil bid me a fond farewell and wish me well at home.
My baby knows me very, very well, she knows the day is coming when I fid her a fond farewell. (Fade and end)
