Story Behind the Song
Geoff and I met at a local gym where he worked, and we got to talking about music one day. He mentioned he was in a local rock band that was doing pretty well, and I explained to him that I was currently working on my third album of hip hop music. I passed him some rough cuts one day, and he loved it, and said we should definitely try to collaborate and see would happen. "One Sound" was what we came up with - not rap, not rock, not trying to be anything but one unique sound, some good music. The actual process of recording the song went real fast - we laced the track in one day after sifting through a bunch of ideas, and we did the vocals all in one day later that week. The chemistry between Geoff and I in the studio was, and still is, incredible. Nonstop ideas, constant progress, I love working with him.
Lyrics
[Hook]
Two styles, one track
The thunder starts to crack
The sky lights up
So don't turn you're back
We're taking you to places you've never been before
Om-ni, N-D
One sound to explore
One sound
The thunder starts to crack
The sky lights up
So don't turn your back
One sound
Too strong to ignore
Om-ni, N-D,
One sound to explore
[The Omnipoet]
Shh, listen,
Can you get a piece of the...
Shh, listen,
Can you catch the ughh that I...
Shh, listen,
Can you hear the sound?
Can you hear the sound of the ground as we flippin?
If the truth is the sound in my voice
Gather 'round and rejoice,
You've been blessed with a choice now, LISTEN UP!
If you're sick of the game
and you wish it would change
Here's a gift from my brain, let me LIFT YOU UP!
I stay olympic with the lyrical physics,
hit it!
Like Billy Clinton did women, but don't admit it
Flash!
I'm on a path moving past getting gassed
I'll let the trash do the math as we blast
More than two styles from two jaws
The reason you're feelin this is cause we're gettin too raw
We settin new laws so you can stop watchin all the problems
We the new stock options
Rock-hopping with the music
We do this
The new shit, is too sick,
Like views from a Kubrick
Fusing the flavors you're tasting,
Hear the nature in my prayers, the words never wasting...
