Story Behind the Song
"This is the song that garnered International acclaim for this talented artist. Inspired by the true occurences in Nigeria in 1997 as peaceful protestor Ken Saro-wiwa was hanged by the military government for his supposed "incitement to violence" during his protests of the denigration of his home, Ogoniland and the Ogoni people. Saro-wiwa released a statement to his people during his sickening time in brutal conditions in prison awaiting a trial that never happened, that suggested love instead of hate and for his followers to "..dance, my people dance.." This is a powerful song, and one that has left this reviewer, who usually hides behind his well sheltered skeptism, saddened and uplifted at the same time."
