Story Behind the Song
when i was a kid my family moved around a lot. from k-12 i went to 8 different schools in two different states. i always did my own thing, mom always said we had gypsy in our blood and thats why we had to move so much. sometimes i think thats a very accurate statement especially after the last few years.
Lyrics
little boy from chicago only 8 years old.
stepped foot on this oklahoma soil and i called it my new home. i spent the summers in the garden a picken them beans by the fistfull.
my mom and dad did the best that they could. boy we grew up oh so good, but that gypsy in our blood it kept us movin on. the lonesome hum of rubber on red dirts carrying us on to our next home.
psuedo-city boy only 12 years old steps foot into a cowtown, everybody knows my name. showed up to that first day of school, wearing chuck-taylored allstars and colored jams. i didnt fit in but that was ok, i make my own way in this life.
my mom and dad did the best that they could. boy we grew up oh so good, but that gypsy in our blood it kept us movin on. the lonesome hum of rubber on red dirts carrying us on to our next home.
young man only sixteen years old returns to a city, nobody remembers my name. showed up to that first day of school, trombone in my hand everything was gonna be ok. everything was alright till they elected me bandking...that was all i could take, and that gypsy in my blood it kicked in once again, that loneslome hum of rubber was callin my name. so oklahoma winds wont you take me, oklahoma winds wont you keep, oklahoma winds wont you help me find my way home.
