another one for the couch... |

Story Behind the Song
I was interested in uneven chord/bar structures, and this was conceived musically first, around an Amaj7, C, D7 riff in 4/4 time.
At the same time the chorus was classic G, F, C, D7, but with a constant high G drone throughout.
I think the title came first, and then I tried to fit a song around it. There's some self-analysis in there, but mostly it's playing around with alliteration and other fun stuff. Mostly a sonic experience. It didn't take long to write.
The backing is computerised, only the acoustic is live.
Lyrics
A sorry state of mind
Only some substance can help me to unwind
When life is so sweet
There's poison in every river, it don't spoil my meat
I'd like to tell you why
But there's nothing to tell
CH: The colour of blood is in your eyes
Your sorrow is sudden but no surprise
And I wish you'd stay this way
You need me now, or so they say
So they say
A self-important man
I'll carry my banner proclaiming what I am
A cell within a soul
Some kind of solace
A mask for every ball
I wish that I could lie
But there's nothing to tell
Repeat Chorus
Mid 8: But I almost couldn't care
I'm almost unaware
I wish that I could lie
But there's nothing to tell
Repeat Chorus
