This song is a true power pop tune with roots firmly planted in the Brit-pop soil. Piano provides the bed, guitars sting in and out, with the rhythm section driving it along. The backing vocals complete a "wall of sound jr." feel.

Credits: Jon Celenatno, lead/backing vox; Jeff Celentano, piano/backing vox; Tyler Dalsted, guitar/drums; Tony Barton, bass

    Story Behind the Song
Banana Split is basically a song about blowing an opportunity. It's pretty apparent what kind of opportunity, I think. It was the first song written in Las Vegas after moving there 6 months earlier and was originally recorded with a diferent rhythm section, at a drastically slower pace, due to all the substances ingested before and during recording. The original 4 track demo is still floating around and will be included on our box set if we ever put one out. By the way, I can't explain the title. think up something yourself and start a rock and roll myth.

    Lyrics
Something here ain't going my way
    last night everything was cool
    turned of her bedroom light
    everything going right
now i'm feeling like a fool

i recall the way it all went
i volunteered to drive you home
next came my fantasy, you were all over me
you whispered "don't leave me alone"
    but the morning's new arrival
played like an archival film about my recent past
you don't need to be a genius to see this thing between us
baby, ain't no way, it's got no chance in hell to last
chorus: i guess i'll just turn away
Just go right out that door
    don't say any more
just turn away, you got enough to ignore
    don't say anymore

next thing i know, i'm driving back home
the road was slick, i almost hit some kid
but the blow to my vanity is my clear memory
of all the shit we never did
and there's so much i would tell you
    if i had the nerve to;
guess i'll dig you from afar
i just think you oughta know just how far we didn't go
cause i spent that night in my
yeah i slept out in my car

    chorus 2x to end
