Story Behind the Song
This one came from the incongruity of watching people dance in clubs to songs like U2's "Sunday, Bloody Sunday". Once the title came to me, the rest was easy.
Lyrics
Children in the country, all they know is war
Their mothers try to hold them, protect them from the scars
Tell it to the soldiers, who hunger for a fight
But hold off when they party, every Friday night
Criticize the generals, turn up the heat
Chastise the rebels, and put it to a beat
The politicians argue, they want another chance
But tell it to the people, all they wanna do is dance
Dancing to death and destruction
Moving to the ultimate seduction
Dancing to the power and the glory of the kill
Moving to the fire and the fury of the thrill
[repeat]
The experts on the left, and the experts on the right
Debate the consequences of another country's plight
We get the daily footage of the carnage on TV
But it doesn't matter when we tune out what we see
[solo]
[chorus]
A singer hears the story, thinks he knows what's wrong
Conceives a quick solution, and writes a catchy song
Then he made a video, you see it all the time
Now he's making millions off of other people's crimes
(Dancing to death and destruction) [repeat 3 more times]
[chorus to fadout]
