    Story Behind the Song
The song was written as a tribute to the late

    Lyrics
    CHANSON POUR JACQUES BREL
IL DISAIT: "MOURIR, CELA N' EST RIEN,
    MOURIR, LA BELLE AFFAIRE...
    MAIS VIEILLIR...AH! VIEILLIR..."

    Jacques,
    Permets que je t' appelles
    Jacques,
Bien que, comme tu l' ais souvent dis,
T' aimais mieux qu' on t' appelle Jacky...
    Oui, Jacques,
    C' etait pas le moment
    Qu' tu claques,
    La poesie est en debacle,
Mes roses vont fleurir sans toi...
    Toi Jacques
    Le seul, le vrai, oui
    Le grand Jacques...
Celui qui n' avait que l' amour,
Mais qui l' offrait sur du velours
    Du velours...
    Entends,
Toutes les tours de Bruges a Gand,
Tous les bourgeois du ciel Flammand
Et Bruxelles qui pleure en dedans...
    Entends,
La poesie pleure un grand Maitre
    Celui qui avait su disparaitre,
    Et revenir pour mieux partir...

    Jacques,
Les marins pleurent dans le port,
    Don Quichotte combat encore
Son moulin de vie et de mort
    Et de mort
    Jacques,
Tandis que mes roses se fanent
    Ma soif de poesie reclame
    Zangra, Madeleine, Amsterdam...
    Amsterdam
    Entends,
Meme loin de ton ciel Flammand,
On chante encore tous tes enfants
    Vesoul et Bruxelles tout autant
    Entends,
    Meme Germaine a le bourdon
Car ils sont partis ses bonbons
    Dans la gueule du Lion...
    Jacques,
Il fallait que ce soit ainsi,
Risque du metier comme on dit
Car tot ou tard...On nous rappelle...
Ca n' est qu' un aurevoir
    Monsieur Brel...
