Story Behind the Song
Regardless of what you are doing in your life, it's hard to escape the feeling that someone is probably watching you. That was the basis of this song's meaning, written during a time when the band, for what ever reason, felt as though they were living in a fish bowl. The music had been composed by Jack Shloze and Billy Alexander on guitar back in the early '80s. In 1984, Kirk Layne wrote the lyrics and melody, and Al Golehon added the powerful bass line and big Moog synth to complete what became known as "Big Brother". The band has been playing this song ever since, with great response from the listeners and audience. So, the next time you feel like you need to look over your shoulder, listen to Big Brother to see if you can relate.
Lyrics
Seen on a screen
A machine
Could it mean
that it's
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
Heard every word
Every turd
Every bird shot at
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
The thought police are at my door
And it's
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
If I slip, will they know
And if I doubt, will it show
If I flinch, can they see
Are all their eyes
Trained on me
Work when your told
When your cold
When your old
'Cause it's
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
Step out of line
Out of time
Your last dime
'Cause it's
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
The thought police are at my door
And it's
Big, Big Big Brother
Big Big, Big Big Brother
If I slip, will they know
If I doubt, will it show
If I flinch, can they see
Are all their eyes
Trained on...
Stand at attention
To the front we go
Oh, what an honor
Dying for Big Bro
You see no escape now
Hopeless now
You don't know what to do
Big Brother is watching you
Last thing to try now
Bow our heads and pray
Life everlasting
In our final day
No hesitation
Enter in and you'll know that it's true
Big Brother can not see you
