Story Behind the Song
This song, while sounding a bit like a good old fashioned love song, is actually an amalgam of feelings about my wife, my father (who was ill when I wrote it and died subsequently) and God or whatever you want to call a supreme being. Listening carefully, you can hear the intersection of human and divine attraction, gratitude and inspiration.
Lyrics
Because of You
Because of you, because of you, the light came shining through
I am so blind, you're so kind and everything you say is true
My heart's gonna sing, I think it's got wings and gonna fly right to you
Because of you, because of you, today the sky is blue
I've been singing so loud I frightened a cloud, now he's crying like a baby blue
So the rain's coming down, a gift to the ground because of you
I want to know where you got your precious gift
And how you learned to give so easily
I wonder how it came in my possession
My reception is coming clean
Because of you, Because of you I now see things with a different view
You were talking to me about how to be free and suddenly it was easy to do
It's hard to believe there's nothing up your sleeve when you say I love you
