	Bill Shankly was arguably the greatest football manager in the history of the game. A man of humble origins, he rose to become an icon for an adopted city, a focal point for the ambitions and dreams of millions of people. Not least amongst his triumphs were that he bore his greatness with humility, wielded his rapier wit and humour without malice and never once did he forget his roots nor betray his social conscience.
