    Story Behind the Song
A friend of mine who will remain anonymous told me this sad but touching story of how she overcame self-consciousness through the use of a tassled-jacket. This is written from her point of view.

    Lyrics
    I wish I may, I wish I might
On the first star I see tonight
God I know I belong on the Northside

See the kids over there well they are so cool
They got long hair, ripped jeans, and they're breaking rules
Like Guns N Roses and Motley Crue

And of course there's that 5'8" stud Billy
The faint outline of his moustache drives me silly
He's in my period 3 Social Studies
He signed my yearbook so nice on page 98
I know he'd be mine if I could just lose this weight
And then he'd pour some sugar on me
I don't really know what that means

Like being in middle school wasn't hard enough
Having this weight problem is friggin' tough
What can I do to make them understand
And see me not for my weight, but for who I am
See me not for my weight, but for who I am

Times were rough then, yeah and times were tight
I was wishing on every star of every night
One night my mom came in with a surprise
    She handed me this package
I opened it up to a beautiful tassled-jacket
I knew with this no longer would I be the plain old fat kid
(Not anymore check me out...this jacket has tassles on it)

And I've never been so right before
It was like see you later fat kid
    She's here no more
If you're looking for me on campus...Head North
    Cuz I'm a Northsider now

Mom always said it was like Dumbo's magic feather
With enough confidence you can do whatever
It's amazing what a little magic does
They saw me not for my weight, but for who I was
Saw me not for my weight but for who I was
