Story Behind the Song
My friend started writing this about his inability to come out to his parents.. and then since he's not a singer he passed it on to me and I wrote my own lyrics and arranged the music to fit in with my lyrics.. I performed this song live for 1500 people for my first performance EVER.. a very special song to me..
Lyrics
Verse 1
Why should I have to lie,
it won't rectify the things I feel inside
Why should I take the blame
for your type of shame and live my life in lies?
You can't confiscate my freedom,
or condemn me though you try,
you ov-er-comp-lic-ate love,
well open up those predjudiced eyes
Chrous
Why won't you just leave it alone,
don't you see that I'm not taking this easily,
It's hard enough just to deal with the fact,
that you may not take me seriously,
(You're blind.. cause u don't want to see.. who I really am.. well I'll make you see)
Verse 2
Why do you criticize me,
manifest your fears in your actions and words,
Why do you fail to see,
try to deny me my right to the things I deserve,
Do you really think your kind of life's
the only one that's right,
You put labels on my kind,
in your hateful mind is that justified?
Why won't you just leave it alone,
don't you see that I'm not taking this easily,
It's hard enough just to deal with the fact,
that you may not take me seriously,
You can't begin to know,
what's going on inside my mind,
Clearly you see me but it's obvious,
your ignorance has made you blind,
so blind.. do you really believe the words you say?
(spoken)
you take my right to be myself and try to radicate it,
when the heart's ability to love should not be complicated,
by constraints of gender, race and faith but when we try to change it,
you opression halts our history before we start to make it,
but your efforts of annhilation only fan the fire,
and while sticks and stones may break our bones your hate feeds our desire,
to stand tall out of the shadows to stay true to what's inside,
and no matter what you say or do we know we'll always have our pride
(repeat chorus)
